Colby Industries in a joint venture with Life Cycles and Econsearch delivered pioneering research for the South Australian Government into whether a future Circular Economy could deliver new jobs and economic opportunities. Since helping to raise awareness of the Circular Economy at Enviro 2014 in Adelaide, Dr  Chris Colby has long been involved in advancing this exciting new idea, including its emergence as part of the State Waste Strategy.

In this landmark project, Dr Colby identified, brought together, and contributed his expert knowledge to the team of Australian experts, managed by Life Cycles, to apply Environmentally Extended Input-Output (EEIO) analysis to model future job outcomes for the State economy under different future Circular Economy scenarios. This analysis projected that the Circular Economy could create an additional 25,700 full time jobs by 2030, as well as reduce South Australia’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 27%.  More information on the project, including reports, can be found at:http://www.greenindustries.sa.gov.au/circular-economy.
